Catholicism may be the most unpopular religion of all times right now. This is not the church you would pick if you wanted to be hip, cool or politically correct. Even Catholics are questioning their faith. And yet, despite the scandal, corruption, and unpopular teachings I am convinced it’s true and the evidence that convinced me resides in these pages. Here’s the cliff notes version:

1) I’m convinced that science and faith are not at odds and that there is significant evidence for an intelligent creator and that God exists.

2) I’m convinced that there is more academic, historical and anthropological evidence for the life of Jesus Christ than 90% of other historical figures that are accepted without question. Despite what pop culture tells us, I’m convinced that  Jesus was not a myth. I’m also convinced that the historical evidence points towards the Jesus of Christianity, not the new-age or Hindu concept of Jesus and Christ-consciousness.

3) I’m convinced that the claims of Christianity are uniquely credible and that I was being intellectually lazy when I used to believe that all religions could be true. A little investigation uncovers many irreconcilable contradictions between them.

4) I’m convinced that God gave us His inerrant word and a failproof way to ensure it was not misinterpreted.

5) I’m convinced that a perfect God can work through imperfect people and that the bad acts of certain Christians do not prove Christianity wrong.

6) I’m convinced that the official teachings of today’s Catholic Church are the same as the historical teachings of the early church that came from Jesus, His Apostles and their apostles.

7) I’m convinced that God sends us signs and wonders to point us in the right direction… and that these miracles can be (and have been) validated by science so as to not be disputed.

8) I’m convinced that Satan exists and that spiritual warfare is real. Evidence comes from both Scripture and the stories of Exorcists

9) I’m convinced that Hell exists and that our short time on earth is serious business. We have one chance to get it right. The length of eternity is unfathomably long. Yikes… that should have been #1.

10) I’m convinced that God was telling the truth when He warned us that there would be false prophets and come like wolves in sheep’s clothing and that Satan can masquerade as an angel of light. I believe this manifests both inside the Church (corruption and scandal) and outside the Church (new age, occult, and false religions). I am convinced that the scandal and challenges in the Catholic Church are prophecy fulfilled and indicative of great spiritual warfare. I am convinced it is of human or Satanic origin and not of God. I am convinced that we are all faced with Judas’s and Peter’s dilemma of denying Christ right now.

11) I’m convinced by the testimony of these super smart people and that they are right in their analysis of Catholicism.

12) I am convinced that when I gave God an inch, He took a mile (and for that grace, I am eternally grateful). This is subjective. There is no evidence I can show you. For this same grace, you must pray. I challenge you to ask God to prove what is real. I ask you to promise to follow wherever that path may lead to. I ask you to promise to listen… even if it is a very unpopular path.

I am Catholic… despite the Judases… despite more hip, cool and convenient faith options… despite our politically-correct culture that I so desperately wanted to be a part of. I am Catholic.

May God bless you and protect you on your journey. I LOVE and PRAY for you each and every day.

To Eternity and Back!

xoxo

For many people, the concept of an unseen intelligent creator requires a monumental leap of faith. For others, the concept of the universe creating itself out of nothing and life evolving from non-living matter requires an equally large leap of faith.

It’s no wonder why so many people identify as agnostics. It can be overwhelming and as a result, many people don’t even try. After all, how does the average person (even those blessed with a higher education), make sense of the science when they are not scientists?
