Is the concept of Hell incompatible with the nature of a loving and merciful God? Is the devil an imaginary creature manufactured to control the masses? That’s certainly the argument of many who identify as atheists, agnostics, and even some Christians. What does the Bible say? Does any evidence exist? Below is a compilation of scriptural support, visions from the saints, near-death experiences and spine-tingling tales of exorcists. It’s hard to not take Hell seriously after reviewing the library of videos, books, and resources listed below.
If I Were the Devil” by Paul Harvey. Before we look at the evidence, it’s fun to listen to an audio recording from 1965 by Paul Harvey. It’s interesting to think about what Satan would do to try to pluck souls away from God if he were real. Would he appear evil and demonic or would he be charismatic and seductive? Would he terrorize us or would he appeal to our pride and ego as he did with Eve? Or maybe he would entice us with the riches of the world as he did when he tempted Jesus in the desert?
Does Satan Exist?
What evidence is there for Hell, the devil, and his demons? If we concede that Jesus existed and that Bible is the inspired word of God, then let’s start with the scriptural evidence. According to experts, Jesus talked about hell more often than he talked about heaven.
Aside from the teachings of Jesus, there are also many tales of saints and exorcists who have battled Satan. In addition, we have tales from people who claim to have served Satan or have survived near-death-experiences.
Zachary King: An average boy in an average American neighborhood, Zachary grew up in a Baptist home. He began practicing magick at 10 years old; joined a satanic coven at 13 years old; “sold” his soul to the devil; and had broken all 10 Commandments by 15 years old. From his teen years to adulthood he worked his way up to High Wizard in the coven and actively pushed Satan’s agenda including ritualistic abortions and breaking up churches. He claims that he obtained special powers as a result of serving the Devil. Now a Catholic, he discusses why Satan mimics and attacks the Catholic church more than any other religion.
Spiritual Protection: Fr. Ripperger, Ph.D. and Exorcist discusses his experiences as an exorcist, the workings of demons and how to protect yourself spiritually. He says that there is practically not a doctrine of the Catholic Church that the devil does not hate, which for Fr. Ripperger is faith-affirming.
The Strategy of the Devil In Your Life: Fr. Peter Glas, Exorcist discusses the power and strategy of the devil and how to protect yourself.
The Occult, Harry Potter, Yoga, Chi & Combating the Demonic: Another fascinating depiction of the demonic at work through the new age practices and even children’s literature.
Discerning Apparitions: The Bible tells us that the devil is the father of lies. He often imitates the holy in an attempt to lead souls astray. The Bible also tells us that false prophets and demons will perform signs and wonders. In this video, Fr. Ripperger, Ph.D. and Exorcist explains how one can discern holy apparitions from the demonic apparitions mimicking the holy in an attempt to deceive souls..
Demonic Oppression: Fr. Ripperger, Ph.D., An Exorcist explains demonic oppression which is a form of attack different from possession.
The Satanic Case for Catholicism: The Satanic Black Mass is a ritual inversion (and mockery) of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass performed by Satanists. Even if the only thing you knew about Catholicism was that its central form of worship, the Mass, was the target of Satanic ire, you would already have good reason to believe that Catholicism was the true religion. But taken with all the other evidence for the truth that the Eucharist is Jesus, that the Mass is a Sacrifice instituted by God, and that the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Christ, Satan is just one more (unwitting) witness for the truth of Jesus Christ and His Church. Guardian Angels by Fr. Chad Ripperger, Ph.D. Because demons were originally angels, this talk is extremely enlightening in understanding both angels and demons from the perspective of an exorcist who encounters the demonic on a regular basis.
The Kelly Files: Possessions even sometimes make the mainstream news.
Fr. Casey: The Devil is a Liar and Murderer (Spiritual Combat)
Saints who Battled Satan: Read the inspiring and triumphant stories of Padre Pio, Francis of Assisi, Catherine of Siena, Teresa of Avila, John Vianney, and a dozen other saints who battled Satan. You’ll find the strength, the courage, and the faith to win your own war against the Enemy.
Padre Pio’s Triumph Over the Devil. The devils assaulted Padre Pio almost daily. According to Padre Pio: The Devil appeared sometimes in the form of an ugly black cat, or as a naked young woman performing an impure dance, or as a prison-guard who would whip him, or under the appearance of Christ Crucified, his spiritual father, his Father Provincial, his guardian angel, Our Lady, or St. Francis. Other times the devil would spit in his face and torment him with deafening noises.
Magicians Prove a Spiritual World Exists: Creepy and fascinating speculation that there is a difference between illusion and “sleight of hand” and true magical powers provided by demons. I’m not 100% convinced, but man-oh-man is this one fun to watch.
The Remedy for Black Mass: The activity and power of Satanists is greater now than at any time in history. The “great ceremony” of the Satanists is the Black Mass at which consecrated hosts — the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ — are ritualistically desecrated. You don’t hear about black synagogues, black services, etc… just black masses. They know who their enemy is.
Psychiatrist Believes Demonic Possession and Exorcism is Real: He’s heard the voices speak in ancient Greek. He’s heard them speak in Latin. Dr. Richard Gallagher says they converse in Chinese, Spanish, French; that they’re wildly smart and manipulative. [ Read More… ]
Understanding the Attacks of the Devil: An insightful two-part article by Fr. John Bartunek, LC, S.Th.D in which he discusses three strategies of the devil which include corrupting our hearts; causing sorrow and distress; and getting us to give up. [ Read More… ]
Satan: Past, Present, and Future: “Very few people believe in the devil these days,” stated Fulton Sheen in 1958, “which suits the devil very well. He is always helping to circulate the news of his own death. The essence of God is existence, and He defines Himself as: ‘I am Who am.’ The essence of the devil is the lie, and he defines himself as: ‘I am who am not.’ Satan has very little trouble with those who do not believe in him; they are already on his side.” [ Read More… ]
